Jugs like these were found throughout Europe, reflecting their popularity as a utilitarian drinking and serving vessel. These specific ones are inspired by several period examples, made with modern, food-safe glazes and fired out of high fired stoneware clays.
These are fairly similar in height and width, but are not exactly the same. All of my work are handmade so there are subtle differences between bellies, shoulders and necks, as well as how the glaze is patterned across the surface.
A similar Jug used as one of many references can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art, NYC (Accession Number: 52.46.3) but there are numerous other jugs found that were also created in Rhenish stoneware vessels (Netherlands, Germany, "Low Lands," etc) with slight differences in material (earthenware verses stoneware) and decorative elements.
